'No English Darling'

In a fast changing multicultural world, technology has become our preference for communication, detaching us from personal interaction. ‘No English Darling’ is a personal and intimate visual documentation, connecting four generations of family, the Diaspora experienced as a young New Zealander searching for my roots, and discovering the importance of physical interaction.

This 18 year project celebrates my Grandmother and her attention to providing food. Meal times is the thread that connects this message together. I have documented my family around meal times from the moment I choose photography as a means to action positive social change. From a life of poverty my grandmother holds together a displaced family of 10 children though four generations, while preserving her roots. This delightful collection of imagery has been paramount to my development as person and an artist, 18 years of exploring the connection to my Southern Italian heritage has now given me a platform to share a positive message with the greater world.
