BETHELLS BUBBLE PORTRAITS
We have all had a different experience of the past 5 weeks on Level 4 lockdown near and far, here is a small window of bubble portraits from our local community. Bethells (Te Henga) is an Auckland West coastal village with about 270 residents. I decided there was something for me to do here as a documentary story maker, and with the help of these lovely humans we got to have a bit of very safe lock down creative fun. I put a post on our local bongo asking if anyone wanted to participate, then made a time to meet each family at their gate. It was very cool to see how many brought their pets and dressed up!  Stuff article link.

Lynx and Leah: "Celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary in lockdown! So fortunate to be together, here on this wild and wonderful edge of the earth, with the Bethells community. Thanks for recording the moment, Serena."
Kent, Megan, Tasman, 7, and Chase, 10: "Our lockdown has been amazing, spending quality time with our bubble, finishing odd jobs and starting new ones in a place we love so much. We are so lucky to have the beach at our doorstep. This is us with all the small things we missed during lockdown - except the beer, we were well stocked on that."
Marie and Greg: "Our bubble means freedom. We are living in Paradise and are fortunate enough to walk to the dunes and the ocean and now even having them completely for ourselves. Also we can work on our tiny house project and having lost our jobs is actually quite beneficial for the two of us. And we are getting to know each other on a very different level as we spend so much time together/ It never gets boring in fact we somehow managed to become even busier."
Liz Worley, Jonah Worley Billing and Rose Worley: "The lock down for us meant quality time at home and on the land. Watching Papatuanuku carry on and breath in the stillness while everyone was stopped in their tracks was something that gave some comfort as the global situation unfolded."
Marianne and Clive: "We love Te Henga/Bethells and its fantastic, quirky community. Unusual attire is not uncommon here. One of our two chickens recently died so we had to rehome the lonely survivor - Sealey is Marianne's stand-in animal companion. The lockdown means we both get to work at home; such a privilege."
Kate Davison and Dan Ravlich: "We've only recently moved to Bethells after desperately waiting to move out here for years. I cannot think of a better place to be lockdown-ed in. We have done heaps in the garden, made friends with millions of different bugs, enjoyed the last sips of summer, and settled in to the home I really home will be ours forever."
Lesley and Richard Gardner: "Living here at Te Henga we have always said we are lucky locals - and being here during lockdown with a generous and supportive community around us that’s really been confirmed."
Joe, Kate and Bella Guy: "This is where Kate, Joe and Bella live. It's an isolated but very beautiful Te Henga. Time slows down in lockdown, that's a good thing. People need time to reflect on where they are going. Nga mihi, Grazie molto Serena."
Scott, Alice, Khaz and Henry: "Lockdown for us is whanau, kai and kindness, sun-sets and slowing down, biking and budgeting, contemplating what we don’t want to return to, community, conspiracies, queues, frustration and patience, appreciation and love."
Pip and Kaha: "It's been lovely hanging, nagging, feeding, laughing and just being with my boy. Feel very lucky to be here."
